There are also many colleges and universities around San Gabriel, one of the closest and biggest being the University of Southern California with 30,578 full time enrolled students 5 miles away.

San Gabriel has many attractions, the most popular of which is the "San Gabriel Square,” the conglomeration of restaurants and cafes, shops, markets, hair and nail salons, Asian video stores,health services, department stores, plus an extensive jewelry mart, provides 'something for everyone', from purchasing an expensive diamond and shopping for designer suits, to buying soy milk or a travel package to Las Vegas or China. Other attractions include San Gabriel Country Club, San Gabriel Mission, Mission Playhouse, Smith Park, and Vincent Lugo Park.
