A secession drive was established in 1991 to officially secede from North Hollywood. The interests of the residents of Valley Village are represented by a citizen board known as the Neighborhood Council Valley Village (NCVV), which functions as a conduit or bridge between City Hall and Valley Village. Development plans are now routinely required to be presented to the neighborhood council for review and amended if warranted.

The city also enjoys being close to a variety of conveniences. The closest airport is Bob Hope Airport (6 miles), with domestic flights, and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), only 23 miles away. The largest hospital in the region is the Valley Presbyterian Hospital in neighboring Van Nuys, which is also the largest acute care hospital in central San Fernando Valley. There are also a number of universities and colleges near Valley Village, including University of California Los Angeles, California State Northridge, and the Los Angeles Valley College.

Valley Village also has many attractions, including the North Hollywood Recreation Center, which is mostly in North Hollywood, with a portion in Valley Village. The park has an auditorium, lighted indoor baseball diamond courts, lighted outdoor baseball diamonds, lighted outdoor basketball courts, a children's play area, lighted handball courts, picnic tables, an outdoor unheated seasonal pool, and lighted tennis courts. In addition the center has an indoor gymnasium which can be used as a second auditorium and a community room; the gymnasium's capacity is 250 people.

All of these features make Valley Village a great place to buy or sell multifamily investment rental properties such as duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes and larger commercial apartment buildings. This vibrant, growing community has great attractions, a healthy work industry, and many renters. The density of the city and the desire for people to live here, make it an ideal location for multifamily living and the city does have great duplex, triplex, and fourplex properties.
